Tiimiläiset odottavat malttamattomina, että kilpailut alkaa. Treeniaikaa on piisannut ja samalla on voinut testailla uusia kiekkoja. Otetaanpa katsaus muutaman tiimiläisemme bägiin eli pelaajan tärkeimpiin työvälineisiin.

Antonia Faber

Team NBDG:n norjalaisvahvistus on pitänyt työkalupakkinsa melko lailla samassa järjestyksessä jo muutamia vuosia.

Dean Schaub

Kaksi eri vakausastetta Judgesta riittää kaikkiin tarvittaviin putteriheittoihin. Puttaamiseen hän käyttää ainoastaan stämpittömiä, kovemmalla muoviseoksella olevia Judgeja. Dean sanoo, että kova muovi mahdollistaa puhtaamman irroituksen kiekosta putatessa.

Eikä siinä vielä kaikki, vaan Deanin bägistä löytyy lemppariminit eli jenkkistämpillä oleva NBDG:n mini ja DSA-stämpätty kimalteleva mini sekä tietysti Whale Sac pitämään kädet kuivina.

5 tips to get the most out of the off season

5 tips to get the most out of the off season

The main season is over, with a lot of good (and bad) memories, throws, new and old friends and so much more. But for many of us our heads is already looking forward to next year, looking to hunt more perfect flights on the course. But how?
Here is my 5 best tips on how to prepare in the off season.

1. Evaluate

One of the essential things on the path to improvement, is to know where you are. That way, you can see where you need to focus more on, to achieve the goals you have.
What I do is that I take 15-20 minutes to mentally go through the season: my practice, my competitions, my work outside the competitions and so on. Did I met my expectations? What did I do well? What can I improve on? What part of my game was my strength? What part of my game was my weakness? Where did I see improvement from month to month?
Taking notes from this session will give me some good ideas on where I am, and make prepping for 2020 much easier.

2. Set goals

Now that you have spent some time knowing where you are in your game, you should try to figure out where you want to be. Was you 2019 season just what you wanted? Perfect, keep doing what you are doing! Do you want more for you 2020 season? Then the goals you set will show you the way, and keep you true to your path. My goals is usually set up to increase my strengths, and to help my remember to focus on areas I want to improve on. Usually I set one or two main goals, and over time I add, review and adjust subgoals along the way.

3. Build your body

If you are like me you LOVE to throw. And in season that is also where the most amount of time is used, throwing. But disc golf is really hard on the body, and the off season brings less conditions for throwing and more for training and building body. I HIGHLY suggest checking out Disc Golf Strong, bringing athleticism into the sport. This is where you can get your total workout to prevent injury and prepare it for the coming season, for ams and pros alike.

4. Get ready for 2020

Arguably one of the best things about Christmas, is looking forward to Christmas. How about making the 2020 the same? You know what events you loved playing, and what you really want to attend next year. Get your calendar updated with dates or estimated times, as well as when registration starts. May I suggest putting Tyyni on your calendar…

5. Have fun!

Now this might go without saying – but the off season is a great time to have fun. Try new things, like joining a putting league, look for some indoor training, or maybe checking out ultimate? And if those options don`t float your boat, there is always fantastic disc golf coverage on Youtube, like Jomez, CCDG or SM Disc Golf.
Have a great off season people, lets make the best out of it!

The year of the monkey

The year of the monkey

The big monkey

One should always be careful of calling your boss nicknames, but when the big monkey Juha Kytö asked me to join Team Natural Born Disc Golfers before the 2018 season I was super excited. But also super nervous, as that would mean I had to literally change my whole bag. That would mean every single disc in my bag had to be changed. Since then I have thrown more molds than I can count, spent hours and hours with them trying to find the right once and get to know them. You can have a look here at my process – https://youtu.be/ZDU8bvQuqtA

Changing my bag have been the biggest challenge for me this season, the discs are the tools we trust more than anything on the course. Therefore I am proud to say that I now, 9 months later, have a bag filled with some of the best plastic around, plastic I really trust. There is still room for improvements in my bag though, but I can honestly say there is not a throw I don`t feel I have the right tool for right now.  Have a look at my in the bag here – https://youtu.be/VjbYTDCCtaI

The medium monkey

Giving back to the community, growing the sport and helping other disc golfer is, and has always been a big focus for me. I have hosted 7 PDGA sanctioned tournaments this season, a Trilogy Challenge, a handfull of clinics, started a disc golf podcast with Dean Schaub (https://www.facebook.com/theperfectflightdg), done daily vlogs during Tyyni, kept writing for the biggest disc golf news outlet in Norway and more. Natural Born Disc Golfer has supported me through everything on this list, and so has my followers and players done throughout the year. Make sure you follow me on Facebook, a lot of action is happening here – https://www.facebook.com/TheFrisbeerGuy

This means that I have been able to showcase this sport to more than 500 players in tournaments, brought disc golf to national news outlets, reached thousands through Youtube and social media and met more awesome people than I can count. Disc golf is like a family, and I feel like I have increased my family weekly this whole season.

The small monkey

I can truly say I have never been this focused about disc golf as I have this season, but I have also never played so little disc golf. I have set clear goals, made training- and practice plans, working on every aspect of the game. I have done a big jump in my ratings with almost 40 points, and a big decrease in my weight as I have lost 13 kgs in 12 months.

I have reach several of my goals before I planned, gotten my first PDGA wins, seen my kids increase their interest and joy for the sport, shared memories with my travel- and practice-partner Fredrik, gotten a wife who is more and more supportive as she sees how dedicated and goal-focused I am towards becoming a better disc golfer. I am finishing this season lighter than I have been in years, higher rated than I have ever been, and more motivated to keep pushing for a new season than you can imagine.

I look forward to keep pushing, working hard and improving this off season, and too see and hear more from all you – my awesome disc golf family.
